Absolutely! You can sign up to our club anytime by filling out our membership form.
The membership fee covers the cost of joining our club, and also allows you to participate in our Small Ensembles Program.
If you are an MSA+ member, then this is absolutely free! If you are a non-MSA+ member, then this is a mere $5.
You can find out more about MSA+ at the MSA website.
The playing fee covers a variety of costs including, but not limited to: sheet music printing, purchases and hire; venue hire; conductor honorariums; and band camps! If you intend to play and perform in a main ensemble (MoJO, MSW, MPO), we require you to pay the playing fee, but feel free to come along to a couple rehearsal to try it out before paying.
If you are a student, regardless of your institution of study, the playing fee is $30. If you are not a student, the playing fee is $40, payable to our treasurer.
Honorary Life Members do not have to pay a playing fee.
Please bring your instrument and a music stand. Additionally, please bring a pencil to make any necessary markings on your sheet music (no pens!).
Unfortunately, we do not have instruments for hire through our Society. We recommend looking at your local music stores if you would like to hire an instrument.
You are welcome to try playing in our percussion sections in MSW and MPO if you would like to learn some new skills!
Most definitely! You can play jazz piano as part of the Monash Jazz Combo (MoJaC) which holds auditions at the start of each year, and has occasional vacancies throughout the year. Contact our Small Ensembles Coordinator for more information.
If you would like to play piano in another main ensemble, such as MSW or MPO, we generally recommend joining the percussion section, on glockenspiel or vibes which are similar, as piano parts are rare in these settings. Who knows, you may even enjoy learning new percussion instruments!
Alternatively, you can join the Small Ensembles Program and play the piano with other like-minded musicians in a group! For more information, email our Small Ensembles Coordinator.
